The Best Air Purifiers for Allergies – An Overview

Does anyone in your family have allergy problems? Then buying an air purifier should be a priority! Of all the brands out in the market today, how does one know which is the best air purifier for allergies? Now there’s a question! There are so many publications and websites out there endorsing one allergy relief air purifier or another. While many do give good reviews, most opinions are based on such criteria as appearance, price and alleged features.

If allergy is the problem, then other things like how it is able to clear air pollutants like dust, pollen and smoke should be looked at more closely. In our search for allergy free air filters, we found allergy furnace filters especially interesting.

A Review of Popular Air Purifiers

The 3M Filtrete Ultra Allergen Filter – Sometimes, buying an expensive air purifier may be the best option. But just before you do that, you might want to consider these inexpensive allergy furnace filters. Many experts say that the 3m filtrete air filter is very good in removing airborne particles that cause allergies, such as pollen, dust, pet dander and more. At a measly 15 dollars a filter which is good for 3 months, this might solve your air purifying needs!

The Holmes HAP625 – Do I really need to buy those sometimes expensive portable units? Well, if you must buy one, why not take a look at Holmes? The HAP625 is one of the least expensive air purifiers out there, but don’t let the price fool you.
This air purifier uses a HEPA with Microban antimicrobial agent which also helps stop bacteria, mold and mildew from growing. For those with severe allergies, this can be the answer you are looking for.
However, this air purifier is good only for 10x16 rooms or office spaces, so they are not really suitable for large spaces. As usual, you get what you pay for, so if space is a consideration, consider it's bigger brother the Holmes HAP675, which can cover effectively an area of 20X23.

The Honeywell CPZ 17250 Hepa Quiet Care – a purifier from Honeywell's Hepa Quiet Care range - is also a good option to combat allergens.
Honeywell Quiet Care air filters remove airborne particles effectively with a pre-filter for odors, and a true HEPA filter for serious air pollution removal.
While it costs much less than other air purifier models in it's class, the pre-filter needs to be changed at least twice a year, and the HEPA filter needs to be changed every year. This may somewhat affect savings, but if you are looking for both good performance and silence, then you should go for this air purifier.

When it comes to HEPA filtration it's also worthwhile to check out Austin Air's range of HEPA air cleaners, especially the Austin Air Allergy Machine.

Electrostatic allergy room air cleaners, such as the Ionic Breeze range, and Hoover's Silent Air purifiers, are also an excellent choice.
