HEPA air purifiers - Keep Your Allergy at Bay!Perhaps as a long time sufferer of allergies, or of asthma, your doctor may have advised you to purchase a couple of HEPA air purifiers, so that you may breathe easier. Or you have read an article which claims that indoor air pollution can be several time more severe than the pollution outdoors. In his wisdom the writer advises you to get a HEPA air purifier. But are HEPA air purifiers actually useful? Are they efficient – what percentage of pollutants can they remove from the air? The answer to these questions is a resounding Yes! Just in case you are wondering, HEPA air cleaners are definitely not a fad – they have been with us since the mid forties, and are used in many commercial situations. They are used in aircraft, hospitals, operating theaters, and any other environment where it is crucial to keep contamination of the air to an absolute minimum. So HEPA air cleaners are useful, and they are efficient – very efficient. As a matter of fact, they can remove 99.7% of all pollutants of 0.3 micron and larger from the air. But it does not stop there. HEPA filters can actually remove particles as small as 0.01 micron, but the percentage of particles that small that is captured is insignificant. Expect about 50% of particles of 0.1 micron and larger to be removed. HEPA filters - Bottom lineWhat all this means is that if you purchase a good quality HEPA air purifier, you can expect it to remove most airborne bacteria, skin flakes, pet dander, dust mite debris, household dust, mold, pollen, plant spores, and other allergen. Make sure though that you purchase a quality True HEPA cleaner,
and not a HEPA-type unit. The latter is a lot cheaper, but not as
half as good as a True HEPA filter. |
