Honeywell air cleaners - air purification the "smart" wayAs early as in the 1980’s the Honeywell had a vision of the
“smart building” – a building where air, light, and appliances are
controlled by a central computer to make our home as comfortable as
possible. Whilst at present this is only a reality for the Bill
Gates in the world, the company certainly has the product range and
expertise to make it a reality for the rest of us in the near
future. One of these products is the Honeywell air cleaner. Of the room size models, there are two basic types of Honeywell air cleaners, those that feature HEPA filters, and those that have an electrostatic precipitator as the main cleaning components. Both technologies are about equally effective, with the electrostatic precipitator models having the edge, being generally more quiet, requiring no expensive HEPA filters to be replaced, and using significantly less electricity. To remove cooking odors and the like, both types of Honeywell air cleaner usually have an activated carbon pre-filter on board. What is very useful is that Honeywell air cleaners all have a Clean Air Delivery Rating (CADR) – the amount of clean air provided measured in cubic feet per minute of operation. The CADR divided by 2/3 gives you the maximum room size that an air cleaner is able to clean on it’s highest setting, so this helps with what size air cleaner to purchase. By dividing the purchase price by the CADR, one gets a measure that tells you the cost per cubic feet cleaned, and makes it possible to compare similar type air cleaners. All Honeywell air cleaners come with either a three or five year warranty. |
