Amcor air purifier review

With prices between $30 and $90, Amcor air purifiers will appeal to some of the more budget conscious amongst us. Let’s find out whether these rather cheap Amcor air purifiers also represent good value.

The AM-40 is the cheapest of the four Amcor air purifiers. Besides a washable filter the unit also has a fragrancer.

The next Amcor air purifier - the AM-60 - features Hepa-type and electrostatic filtration with washable filters. The HEPA-type filter will undoubtedly remove smaller particles than the AM-40, but it’s performance will be only 40% to 60% of that of a true HEPA filter. Electrostatic filtration means that the filter has an electrostatic charge which will help with catching smaller pollutants than otherwise would have been possible. Make sure that the filter is cleaned frequently, otherwise it will quickly become ineffective.

The good thing about both the AM-40, and the AM-60 is that the filter can be washed, so you will save on buying replacement filters.

As neither purifier features true HEPA type filtration, these units are inadequate at helping to relieve allergies and asthma.

All Amcor air purifier models feature an ionizer, which will help freshen the air and remove some of the smaller particles. As ionizers also release small amounts of ozone, they will help combating odors, such as that from cooking and cigarette smoke.

The AM-80, and the AM-130 are the more expensive Amcor air purifiers, as is evidenced by them featuring true HEPA filters. A true HEPA filter is able of removing 99.97% of all particles 0.3 micron and larger from the air, and provides some real air cleaning capability – sufficient to remove dust, pollen, many bacteria, mold spores, and some animal dander.

Both Amcor air purifier models also have an activated carbon filter on board, which helps with filtering gases and odors.

The AM-80 has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) with Ionizer on: Dust 78; Smoke 82; Pollen 95.

The AHAM suggests that as a rule of the thumb, the CADR rating should be at least of the room’s area that has to be cleaned, so this Amcor air purifier will reliably clean an area of about 121 square feet – a bedroom.

The AM-130 can clean rooms up to 200 square feet (a good size a living room), with a CADR rating that supports this: Smoke 126; Dust 127; Pollen 128.

These stats are quite satisfactory, and make these two Amcor air purifier good value.

As for the two cheaper Amcor air purifiers, the greatest thing that can be said about them is that they are cheap, just don’t expect them to do a thorough cleaning job.
