Austin air cleaners review

Were it not for the wife’s founder of Austin Air Systems, many people would not have the benefit of Austin air cleaners today. How come? Well, for years she had serious breathing problems, and nothing seemed to help – diet changes nor medications brought any relief.
So Richard Taylor decided to improve the indoor air in the house by building an air cleaner – it turned out to be the first Austin air cleaner.

The company has since come up with numerous innovations in it’s Austin air cleaners, and has become one of the largest firms in the industry.

A leading consumer organisation reviewed 21 top brand names and rated the Austin Health Mate as follows:

  • Best overall air cleaner for combined dust, smoke gas and odor removal
  • Best air filter
  • Best HEPA air filter
  • Best gas and odor removal
  • Best warranty
  • Best guarantee

Austin air cleaners always feature:

  • a large outer filter to trap large airborne particles, lint and hair
  • a pre-filter that protects the HEPA filter
  • a HEPA filter that removes harmful airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns.

Apart from these standard features Austin air cleaners also employ another pre-filter that is either made from activated carbon, carbon/zeolite, or military grade carbon, and can remove to a different degree odors, smoke, and very small particles.

This arrangement allows the consumer the choice between three different levels of cleaning capability:

  • The standard Austin air cleaner – the Health Mate – is an excellent choice for homes and offices. It can remove a wide variety of contaminants, including dust, pollens, dander, odors, and chemical vapors.
  • The Health Mate Plus uses the carbon/zeolite mix and potassium iodide, and is designed to remove volatile organic chemicals. It is recommended for those who have chemical sensitivity.
  • The Allergy Machine combines the gas trapping ability of military carbon cloth and HEPA's particle filtration, and is ideal for allergy/asthma sufferers.

Each type comes in two sizes. The larger models can clean up to 1,500 square feet, whereas the smaller Austin air cleaner models can clean up to 700 feet.

As Austin air cleaners are all made of steel, they are very durable and are supposed to last at least 5 years. They are also characterized by high-velocity airflow, which creates a clean air pocket around the user.

For a HEPA air cleaner, Austin air cleaners are relatively cheap to run. If the air cleaner is run continuously for the whole year, the electricity cost will be about $87. HEPA filters are notoriously expensive, but the good news is that the company guarantees that the filter under normal residential use can be expected to last for five years.

All Austin air cleaners come with an extensive 5 year warranty.
