Protect your HVAC with a 3M filtrete filter - and reduce your allergy as well

Who does not know 3M – a globally diversified technology company with a product offering including graphics, communications, health care and transportation? And chances are, that if you check your furnace filter or your air purifier, you will find that it has been installed with a 3M filtrete filter.

Most filtrete filters, also called electrostatic filters, are designed to protect the blower motor and equipment of a central heating/cooling unit from dust, lint and the like. They can be found as pre-filters in air purifiers to protect more expensive HEPA filters.
However, with the right filter, such as those by 3M, you can also significantly improve indoor air quality by attracting and capturing pollen, pet dander, smoke and other tiny particles.

A filtrete filter contains electro-statically charged fibers, that work like tiny magnets to capture up to 30 times more pollen, pet dander, smoke, dust and other allergens than standard fiberglass filters. However, they do not remove odors and smoke.

The best electronic air cleaners can capture particles as small as 0.1 microns while the top of the line 3M filtrete filter is effective down to 0.3 microns.

If somebody in your household suffers from allergies or asthma, then you can capitalize on the 3M filter by running your forced-air system fan continuously - not just during heating and cooling seasons.

Make sure to replace the 3M filter on a regular basis though, every 3 months for a filtrete filter, and every 2 months for an air conditioner.
Otherwise, if you leave the filter in too long it can become clogged,. This reduces the airflow, and hampers the heater’s heating capability.
