Hunter air cleaners – good quality air cleaners, but make sure you get one with sufficient air cleaning capacity

Hunter manufactures two distinct lines of Hunter air cleaners – air cleaners that use conventional HEPA filters, and their so called HEPAtech system.

Of the two types of Hunter air cleaners, the HEPAtech system is the more interesting.

Hunter claims that these air purifiers clean particles as small as 0.1 micron, whereas traditional HEPA filters only go to 0.3 microns – and all that for almost half the price of it’s Hunter HEPA air cleaner range!

HEPAtech Hunter air cleaners use the following cleaning technologies:

  • Pre-filter removes large dust particles, lint, and hair.
  • 3M filtrete electrostatic filter removes smoke, animal dander, pollen, and other airborne allergens as small as .01 microns and larger.
  • Electrostatic precipitator (Model 30300 only) removes submicron particles while refreshing the air.
  • Carbon filter absorbs the air odors and freshens
  • Ionizer produces negative ions which pull particles out of the air. (Model 30300 only)

This specification is very similar to the Oreck air cleaners, with the exception that these units are at least twice as expensive.

So what’s the catch?

None really, except that the Hunter air cleaners with HEPAtech have less cleaning capacity – up to 224 square feet than the Oreck cleaners’ 900 square feet.

So if all you need is to clean the air in one of the smaller rooms in your house, then a Hunter air cleaner with HEPAtech is a great way to go!
