Oreck air filter - quality for the right price

The Oreck Corporation has expanded their product range of vacuum cleaners to include Oreck air filters. The question in this review is of course: have Oreck managed to successfully transfer their knowledge to that of air filters?

And the short answer is… yes!

One of the strengths of the Oreck air filter is that it employs multiple technologies to clean the air:

• The pre-filter removes hair, lint etc
• An electrostatic precipitator removes small particles such as bacteria, and fungi
• The activated carbon filter absorbs odors, viruses
• The negative ion generator freshens the air

The result is that an Oreck air filter removes any particles from 0.1 micron upwards, which means that an Oreck air filter captures and destroys among others: bacteria, viruses, molds, cigarette smoke, and fungi.

An Oreck air filter has ample capacity to clean a 30’ x 30’ area every hour. And it's as economical to run continuously as an ordinary light bulb. This is good news, as the best results are achieved when the air cleaner runs continuously

Only the carbon filter needs replacing, and in any case, the use of this filter is optional if you are not concerned about removing odors, cigarette smoke and the like. A set of four replacement filters costs about $30, and should last you about a year.

When researching for this Oreck air filter review we only came across two room size air filters, the Super Air 7 and the Oreck XL Professional.

Of the two we prefer the Oreck XL Professional, and although it costs about a $150 dollars more, there are good reasons to pay extra:

• The Oreck XL Professional has a longer warranty, 3 years versus 1 year,
• is guaranteed to destroy 96% of bacteria, viruses, molds, and fungi
• does have Silence Technology, so is quieter
• has free shipping

Finally, with the Oreck XL, a special offer allows you to buy the second Oreck air filter for half price, which is a really good deal if you have a second area in the house that is used a lot at the same time.

So, is an Oreck air filter value for money? We think so, particularly when it comes to the Oreck XL Professional.

Many brands in the same price class offer similar purification capabilities, but if you take into account all the other criteria – capacity, running cost, warranty, free shipping, interest free payment plan, silent operation - then the Oreck XL Professional is very good value indeed.
