Oreck air purifier review

With 40 years of solid growth of it’s excellent vacuum cleaners under it’s belt, the Oreck Corporation have expanded their product range to include Oreck air cleaners

The question in this Oreck air purifier review is of course: have they managed to successfully transfer their knowledge to that of air purifiers?

And the short answer that this review comes up with is… yes!

There are many reviews on the internet, and many aspects that can be emphasized.
However, in our opinion the most important issues that should be addressed are whether the air purifier is effective, and whether it is value for money?

Lets have a look at the effectiveness. One of the strengths of the Oreck air purifier is that it relies on multiple technologies to clean the air:

  • Pre-filter removes hair, lint etc
  • Electrostatic precipitator removes small particle such as bacteria, fungi, dust, tobacco smoke, and pollen
  • Activated carbon filter absorbs odors, viruses
  • Negative ion generator freshens the air

And we are happy to report that as a result an Oreck air cleaner removes any particles from 0.1 micron upwards.

There are other things to keep in mind when evaluating air purifier effectiveness – cleaning capacity. It’s no good having an air purifier that can remove the smallest particles, but only in a tiny area - like your closet!

Fortunately the Oreck air cleaner has sufficient capacity to clean a 30’ by 30’ area every hour, which should cover even the largest living room.

No review is complete without considering cost – how much does it cost to actually run an air purifier, and what things have to be replaced regularly?

The Oreck requires only a small wattage, which makes it cheap to run continuously – recommended if you are really serious about purifying the air in your house.

As far as replacement parts are concerned only the carbon filter needs replacing, but use of this filter is optional if you are not concerned about removing odors, cigarette smoke and the like. In any case, a set of four filters sets you back only about $30, and should last you about a year.

When researching for this review about Oreck we only came across two room size air purifiers, the Super Air 7 and the Oreck XL Professional.

Of the two we prefer the Oreck XL Professional, and although it costs about a $150 dollars more, there are good reasons to pay the difference:

  • The Oreck XL Professional has a longer warranty, 3 years versus 1 year,
  • is guaranteed to destroy 96% of bacteria, viruses, molds, and fungi,
  • does have Silence Technology, so is quieter,
  • has free shipping,
  • Finally, with the Oreck XL, a special offer allows you to buy the second Oreck air purifier for half price, which is a really good deal if you have a second area in the house that is used a lot at the same time.

So, is an Oreck air purifier value for money?

We think that is certainly the case – especially with the XL Professional.

Products from other brands in the same price class might offer similar purification capabilities, but if you take into account all the other criteria – capacity, running cost, warranty, free shipping, interest free payment plan, silent operation, just to name a few - then the Oreck XL Professional is very good value indeed, and it’s small wonder why it’s such a bestseller.
